Travel in and around London

Underground & Buses
There are many ways to travel around London by public transport. When traveling by Underground or “tube”, Overground and bus, the cheapest way to travel is with an Oyster card. You can purchase one at any Underground station, London Travel Information Centre and many Newsagents. If you return your card when you leave you will get a refund. Taxis
Black taxis are easy to hail around central London however they tend to be pricey as they run on a meter. Most B&B’s/hotels will recommend local taxi services which they can phone and book for you in advance.

Transport into London

By Train
London is very well connected within the UK by National Rail and to Mainland Europe by the Eurostar. Booking in advance is highly recommended.

By Coach
London can be accessed by numerous coach carriers. Check out National Express and Megabus for routes and fares.

By Plane
London City Airport, Heathrow, Stansted, Gatwick and Luton are all accessible by public transport however some airports are further away than others and more expensive to travel to. Visit www.tfl.gov.uk to calculate this.
Easy Bus is a cheap alternative to and from Stansted, Gatwick and Luton www.easybus.co.uk
You can also travel by coach from Stansted to Liverpool Street Station www.nationalexpress.co.uk

London YHA Hostels – Oxford Street, London St Pancras and London St Pauls branches are all easy to get to and nice and central www.yha.org.uk

Things to do in London

There are plenty of wonderful places to eat and drink in and around Shoreditch, and interesting places to explore. If you have time it’s worth wandering through the Columbia flower market, heading to Spitalfields Market or Camden for a spot of shopping, having a curry in Brick Lane, visiting Covent Garden Market to see the street performers or a theatre show, strolling along the South bank to see the sites along the river Thames, or visiting one of the wonderful museums such as the Tate Modern, V&A, Natural History or British Museum.
